KEY FEATURES OF A GOOD LIMS
Some of the key features of a good LIMS are:
- Easy configuration to ensure compatibility with customer requirements and adaptability to the evolving laboratory needs.
- Seamless tracking of a sample’s lifecycle, right from sample accessioning, storage, and sample tests, to the permanent disposal of samples.
- A user-friendly interface with access to the various modules and functionality based on access privileges.
- Easy exchange of data between a LIMS and other instruments via a flexible integration facility.
- A key feature of LIMS software is its ability to centralize and manage all the peripheral elements essential for executing laboratory workflows. A LIMS database is a central repository that stores and organizes vast amounts of data related to laboratory samples, tests, and workflows. It serves as the backbone of a LIMS, enabling efficient data management, retrieval, and analysis for seamless laboratory operations.
Technical Specification
Revol LIMS offers distinct interfaces tailored for various users, addressing specific workflow requirements and facilitating lab information management
- Paperless Capability: Comprehensive paperless option, allowing users to complete all tasks and generate reports directly on the portal or their portable devices, which can be utilized by lab technicians and management.
- Sample Management and Tracking : Enables tracking of samples from any location based on various criteria, such as sample type, item, sampling point, and expiry date, to facilitate further processing and disposal.
- Attach Images and Documents (PDF, JPG, etc.) : In cases where a sample is deemed unsuitable, a photo is taken as evidence and subsequently attached to the result report. This feature is included in the Revol LIMS solution.
- Lab Instruments Interfacing / Integration : Laboratory instruments can be integrated using one of the following methods: if the instrument can generate reports in formats such as PDF, Excel, or CSV, data can be extracted by connecting a device to the RS232 port or other connectivity options. For older instruments, a manual entry screen is provided for entering results.
- Calculations : Offering a platform for performing moderately complex formulas and calculations based on the reading values obtained from the instruments.
- Quality Control (QC): Comprehensive QC services to ensure that all laboratories adhere to QC management methodologies in line with ISO 17025:2017 and FDA 21 CFR Part 11 requirements for testing laboratories. This includes but is not limited to QC charts for method performance and calibration certificates, acceptable detection limits for SOPs, method specifications and validation, automated calculations and verification of results based on preset criteria, proficiency testing, and staff competency assessments, audit plans and reports, instrument maintenance schedules and PPMs, document version control, and individual job assignments with email/text alerts.
- Lab Reporting: Delivers timely and efficient general laboratory reports that meet all lab requirements while automating compliance with ESMA standards, including specified limits for each test.
- Inventory Control: Handles all aspects of inventory control and management—encompassing ordering, tracking, and distribution—for all items stored in the lab. This will be achieved using the Revol inventory management system, which will monitor activities such as lot number and expiration date tracking for QC purposes.
- ERP Integration Capabilities: Integrating with SAP ERP, Oracle ERP, and other ERP systems through the use of SOAP/REST APIs.
- Audit Trail: Audit Trail is designed to track and record all changes made to entered information and test results.
- User Permission: Role-based security allows control over application access, restricting permissions related to forms, events, and data based on user roles.
